Who remembers the movie The Wizard of Oz? More specifically how about the scene when Dorothy’s house falls in Munchkin Land? Dorothy walks gingerly out the front door and takes in her new surroundings. Then Glinda the Good Witch appears and explains everything. Then they hear a little giggle. Glinda then sings the song, “Come out, come out, wherever you are…and meet the young lady who fell from a star.” Soon the munchkins start coming out of their homes and hiding places to meet Dorothy.
In my monthly session with my Clergy Coach, she referred to that scene being like what we’re doing with the pandemic. The house of COVID fell in the middle of our lives and we all retreated in fear into our homes and hiding places. Even more specifically in our worship. As you know, we have begun in-person worship on Sunday mornings. I think it is going very well. We are now recording the service live at 9:00 am. That means the service will be posted to our Facebook page a little later in the morning. In the not-too-distant future, we plan on live streaming the service on Facebook so those at home can worship “live” with those gathered in the worship space.
Like the munchkins, we have been inside afraid of the virus. But now, due to vaccines and lower numbers, we are slowly creeping out… SAFELY! It’s not over yet…we will be wearing masks, social distancing, and being careful for at least several more months. But things are looking up. So, in the words of Glinda, when you feel safe, and following all the precautions and guidelines… come out, come out, wherever you are!
See you Sunday!
