Lent is coming! Doesn’t it feel like we just celebrated Christmas? Just as a reminder, the Lenten season and Holy Week are what we call “movable” holidays. They are based on the solar/lunar calendar instead of a specific date like Christmas. So, this year Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17th.
As with many things during this pandemic, we will need to be flexible and adjust our normal practices. I can’t imagine beginning Lent without the imposition of ashes, so we have come up with a way to make that happen! On February 17th from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, I will do imposition of ashes drive through style, like how we have been doing communion. You will enter the portico in the north lot from the east with the driver being closest to the entry doors. Each person in the car must wear a mask. I will impose ashes with a long-handled swab using a fresh one for each person. I will be wearing a mask, face shield, and gloves. For Midweek Lenten worship, we will be posting a brief devotional each Wednesday at 9:00 am on Facebook, which can be viewed at any time. It will include a scripture reading, a hymn, and a prayer. We will be focusing on, "Reflect, Repent, Reconcile, Renew, and Respond."
Lent is a solemn penitent season. So, the dark, dreary days of winter and even the restrictions because of the pandemic might just enhance this Lenten season. One of my colleagues said at the end of Lent in 2020, “This is the Lentiest Lent I’ve ever Lented.” Blessings on your Lenten journey.
“See” you Sunday!
