I make it a policy never to discuss politics from my position as pastor. However, in my letter of call from Peace Lutheran, it says; “guide us in proclaiming God’s love through word and deed.” My friends, our world is in a very dark place right now. There is a global pandemic that is only getting worse. In our country there is a big divide over our recent election and the events that have taken place and are to come. I don’t care if you are a democrat or a republican. If you voted for Donald Trump or Joe Biden. What I do care about is exactly what that call letter says, that you proclaim God’s love through word and deed! And the only way for that to happen is one word… PEACE. It doesn’t mean we all have to agree. That would be impossible. But what it does mean, is that we treat one another with respect, love, and civility. Even those we disagree with! There is no place in this country for violence. So, as we approach another frightening week in the history of our country, let me remind us all of the prayer of St. Francis. Please join me and let us pray:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
