Yesterday I listened to President Biden’s inaugural speech. Whether you agree with me or not… whether you voted for him or not… there was one phrase he said that is stuck in my head that I think is worth repeating. He said, “And we’ll lead, not merely by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.” Again, whether you agree with him or not, those are powerful words!

Throughout the ministry of Jesus, that is exactly what he did. In Philippians 2 it says, “Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,  but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death-- even death on a cross.” Jesus had the power… he was God! He could have waved his hand and changed the world in a flash. But he didn’t. Instead, he humbled himself and was a servant. He loved. He led by example… He is asking us to do the same. There is great power in that!

No, I’m not suggesting comparing President Biden to Jesus Christ. But his words ring true. Especially now. As a country we are deeply divided. As a country we are hurting economically. As a country we are facing a virus we still don’t have completely figured out. But there is hope. The hope comes not from President Biden…the hope comes from God! As Christians, we have God beside us to give us strength to overcome all those challenges. So, the power isn’t in who we are, but in whose we are. The power is in love, forgiveness, grace, and truth that comes from God. People will know God because of our example…in the way we live. Live in God's power my friends...the power of love!

“See” you Sunday!
