During the time of this pandemic, everything seems different! One think that isn’t different is the impact PLC is having on our community. Just this past week we were contacted by a local family who had lost everything in a house fire. Our "Treasures and Trinkets" team didn't hesitate for a second and invited the family down to PLC's basement to "shop" free of charge for whatever they needed.
For the past, several years we have supported We Care by purchasing a truckload of food from the Northern Illinois Foodbank to be distributed right here in Morris to those who need it most. This year is no different… we have begun collecting funds to pay for the whole truck for $750. In years past we have surpassed that amount and given upwards of $1,000 or more! If you haven’t given to this project yet, please add the amount to your weekly contribution and mark it “We Care Food Truck.” Normally we also assist with unpacking the truck and shelving the items. This year we will have the opportunity to pack boxes to hand out to residents. More information for dates and times will be coming later this month.
As you know, I have served on the board of directors for Grundy Area PADS for 5 years now. And since PADS has been in existence, Peace has hosted 2 nights as a shelter during the coldest months of the year. Last year because of COVID we were forced to close the shelters in churches and instead, procured a grant to house the homeless in a local hotel. It looks like we may be forced to do that again this coming fall. But there is still a way we as PLC can help. We are giving fast food cards in $10 increments to our guests, so they have food to eat during the day. If you would like to help, please purchase the cards and either drop them off in office or drop them off at the Grundy Area PADS office located in the library.
I am grateful for all the ways PLC lives out our mission in our community!
See you Sunday,
Pastor Lu
