This has been a week for the record books for sure! On Tuesday a high of 73 with the threat of tornadoes, thunderstorms, and hail? Then on Wednesday the temperature back in the 20s and a chance of snow? What's going on? It almost sounds like the plagues that happened in Egypt when Moses was trying to convince Pharoah to let the Israelites go free! Now, I know we live in the Chicagoland area and the weather can change literally overnight. But this seems awfully drastic to me. I'm certainly no weather expert but I've heard it has to do with the El Nino which makes the waters of the Pacific unusually warm and a wind blows west to east making Canada and the upper United States have especially warm temperatures.
Some say all of this is caused by Global Warming. In other words, what we as humans are doing is destroying the environment and causing this mess. I don't know if all of that is true, but I do know we as humans aren't doing a great job of being good stewards of what has given us. When I was back in seminary we had several classes on stewardship and taking care of the earth. Some of my classmate thought it was a good idea to shower only once every two weeks to conserve water...ah, no. But I did learn some good habits like making sure I was recycling properly and not using paper products like napkins, paper plates, and paper towels. Instead we use cloth napkins, sponges, and rags that can be washed even 18 years later. There are probably a lot more things we can do to take care of this amazing home God has given us! I encourage all of us to do what we can. In the meantime...a/c and heat on in the same day?!?!
See you Sunday!
